There are a number of different opinions about Iznik Hagia Sophia Orhan Mosque. Since the day we started to work about Iznik, we have come across lots of different comments. The second question we forwarded to the people who made these comments as a response for our first question was; ‘Have you been there?’ The astonishing thing was that, we had more ‘No’s than ‘Yes’s. When we asked the same people about the history of the building, we saw that only two of them knew that it was originally built as a temple, just a few knew that the building has served as a Mosque for 589 years, after it had been used as a Church for 850 years until the Ottoman Reign.
Ramadan is a time when we try to purify our souls and minds, as well as our bodies.Let’s set our prejudices aside which might only lead us to evil, and listen to Mahmut Şahin, the Imam of Iznik Hagia Sophia Orhan Mosque. Shall we?
