Today, we celebrate World Environment Day. We wish everyone a productive day on which we all think about our responsibility towards nature and efficient ways to take action.
As an association working for responsible tourism, Rural Tourism is one of our top priorities. Several responsible tourism goals, such as engaging more women in tourism, encouraging family farming, distributing tourism to prevent overtourism in destinations, could be attained by adopting responsible rural tourism strategies. On the other hand, due to lack of infrastructure, tourism can be more harmful in these rural destinations which are right in the middle of nature. That is exactly why raising environmental awareness is even more important in these rural areas.
The results from the ‘Survey about the Religious Life in Turkey’ which was performed by Turkish Directorate of Religious Affairs in 2014, indicates that 96,5% of the Muslim population of Turkey (which is 99,2% of the whole population) share the opinion ‘Everything written in Qur’an is right and true, and will be so till the end of time.’ Considering the fact that among all the Holy Books Qur’an is the one which speaks about environment, nature and universe most, it’s hard to understand why environmental awareness campaigns do not show Qur’an as a reference more often?
